Just Sold: 2013 Mochi Craft 54 Fly Delfino

February 17, 2026
We’re proud to announce the successful sale of the 2013 Mochi Craft 54 Fly “Delfino,” expertly represented on the buy side by John “JJ” Davis of Next Generation Yachting (NGY).
At the time of purchase, Delfino was located in California. Our client was based in Rhode Island. The yacht now calls Rhode Island home.
While that may sound straightforward, multi-state yacht transactions require careful coordination, technical oversight, financial structuring, and experienced negotiation. From initial offer to final delivery, NGY managed every detail of the acquisition, ensuring a seamless experience for our client.
This sale is a strong example of what modern yacht buying looks like: borderless, strategic, and professionally managed.
A Coast-to-Coast Yacht Purchase — Handled Seamlessly
Buying a yacht in another state (or country) often raises immediate questions.
Can it be done remotely?
How does financing work across state lines?
What about taxes, documentation, and shipping?
Do I need to travel to see the boat?
The short answer: yes, it can absolutely be done — and done smoothly — when structured correctly.
In this case, NGY coordinated:
The company membership purchase agreement
Marine financing and lender communication
Survey and sea trial logistics
Documentation and closing
Cross-country yacht transport
Our client did not need to manage vendors, chase paperwork, or navigate unfamiliar regulations. We handled the process end-to-end.
Can You Buy a Yacht in Another State Without Traveling?
Many buyers assume they must travel immediately to the yacht’s location. In reality, much of the acquisition process can be managed remotely.
Professional buyer representation allows you to:
Pre-screen vessels thoroughly before committing to travel
Review detailed specifications and condition reports
Schedule surveys and sea trials efficiently
Manage documentation and escrow electronically
Travel only when it makes sense for you
For Delfino, the yacht was in California, the buyer was in Rhode Island, and the delivery destination was Florida. The transaction proceeded smoothly because the process was structured from the beginning.
Geography should not limit your search for the right yacht.
Understanding a Company Membership Purchase
Many quality yachts are owned by LLCs or corporate entities. In certain cases, rather than purchasing the vessel directly, a buyer acquires membership interests in the owning company.
This structure can offer advantages such as:
Streamlined transfer of ownership
Continuity of existing documentation
Simplified registration transition
Potential tax efficiencies (subject to professional advice)
For Delfino, the acquisition was structured as a company membership purchase. NGY coordinated with documentation specialists and legal professionals to ensure the transfer was clean, compliant, and efficient.
These structures require experience. Done properly, they can significantly simplify the transaction.
Can You Finance a Yacht Located in Another State?
Yes. Marine lenders regularly finance vessels across state lines and internationally.
In this transaction, NGY coordinated:
Lender communication
Survey and appraisal requirements
Insurance binding
U.S. Coast Guard documentation transfer
The physical location of a yacht does not prevent financing. What matters is proper documentation, valuation, and transaction management.
With experienced guidance, marine financing can be integrated smoothly into the purchase timeline.
How Is Yacht Shipping Managed?
Transporting a yacht across the country requires planning and coordination. The solution depends on size, beam, height, and timeline.
For Delfino, NGY arranged professional yacht transport from California to Florida’s East Coast, aligning delivery with closing and insurance coverage.
Transport options can include:
Overland transport
Float-on/float-off shipping
Yacht transport carriers
Captain-led relocation by sea
Each method requires careful scheduling, insurance verification, and logistical oversight. Our role is to ensure the vessel arrives safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
What About Taxes When Buying Out of State?
Tax considerations vary depending on:
Where the yacht is documented
Where delivery occurs
The buyer’s residency
Intended cruising waters
Multi-state transactions must be structured thoughtfully to ensure compliance and avoid unintended exposure. Working with experienced brokers and documentation professionals helps identify appropriate structures and timing.
Every purchase is unique. The key is proactive planning.
Why Use a Buyer’s Broker?
A common misconception in yacht transactions is that contacting the listing broker directly simplifies the process. In reality, the listing broker represents the seller’s interests.
A buyer’s broker represents you.
That means:
Objective pricing analysis
Negotiation strategy aligned with your goals
Clear interpretation of survey findings
Oversight of documentation and compliance
Protection of your financial interests
In the case of Delfino, NGY represented the buyer exclusively, coordinating a complex multi-state transaction while protecting our client’s position at every stage.
Professional buyer representation does not increase the purchase price — commissions are already built into listing agreements. What it provides is expertise, advocacy, and risk mitigation.
